The Hitler games. There was international opposition to the staging of the games in Berlin after the rise to power of Adolf Hitler. In Australia there was rivalry between NSW and Victoria in the athlete selection. The Australian team was a little unsettled by the constant military presence. Jack Metcalfe was the only medal winner, with a bronze in the triple jump.
